Short biography

      

Haris Kanakis was born in Nea Philadelphia, Athens, Greece in 1968. He studied Piano (Diploma with Honors, Exceptional Performance and 1st prize) and Composition (Diploma with Honors and special prize for the submitted work) in the Greek Conservatory, the National Conservatory and the Athenian Music Association. He studied piano with Ms Evangelia Kanakis, Ms Betty Barzouka, Mr Kostis Gaitanou and Ms Myrto Mavrikou, while he studied theory with Ms Calliope Siokou, Mr Dimopoulos, Ms Urania Ioannidou, Mr  Panagiotis Kouvaras and Mr Yiannis Avgerinos. He has also attended many educational music seminars in Greece and abroad.


He is member of the Greek Composers Union (GCU) and has composed many works for orchestra, choir, chamber music and piano which are played by distinguished soloists in Greece and abroad. He has also written music for theater and television and since 2002 deals with jazz-free style transcriptions of known Greek and foreign works on the piano, which shows at times at selected venues.


He also deals with literature having written over thirty novels, theatrical monologues and many poems, some of which were awarded in national competitions. The magazine "Jazz & Jazz" made him special tribute in the March 2008 issue for his artistic - synthetic activity.

 

He worked as piano, choir and theory of music teacher at many Conservatories and Municipalities of Athens from 1988 to 2013 with a large number of students to excel in the music creation and education.
